Harford’s most beautiful sought

Aug. 4 is the deadline for nominations for the 22nd annual Harford’s Most Beautiful People volunteer awards.

Being sought are “unsung heroes” whose acts of goodwill have gone unnoticed, who go above and beyond their paid jobs, contributing their time and talents to enhancing the quality of life in Harford County.
All nominees and their guests will be honored at a special program hosted by County Executive David Craig in early October.

Nomination forms are available at all Harford County library branches and all County senior activity centers or can be obtained by calling Joy Brewster of the Harford County Department of Community Services’ Volunteer Connection & RSVP at 410-638-4444.

Upper Chesapeake reinstates smoke free policy

Upper Chesapeake Health has reinstated its smoke-free policy at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air and Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace. As of June 2, tobacco use of any kind was banned on hospital property.

The medical campuses had been no smoking zones for years. However, because of construction and renovation projects at both facilities, smoking temporarily was permitted in designated areas at both facilities. The smoking areas used by volunteers, patients and visitors were eliminated as the construction projects neared completion.

Upper Chesapeake Health and 29 other hospitals in Maryland have joined in efforts to become smoke free.
