Bowhead opens Aberdeen office
Bowhead Science and Technology LLC (BST) has opened an Aberdeen division with offices in the Water’s Edge Corporate Campus in Belcamp. The division will service a $103 million contract BST was awarded earlier this year to provide technical and professional services to the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. BST has provided program management services for major aviation acquisition programs for the Naval Air Systems Command and support for unmanned air systems for the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps. BST is a subsidiary of Bowhead Technical and Professional Services, Inc., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Alaska Native Corporation Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corporation (UIC) of Barrow, AK. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Oct. 8, and UIC Board Chairman Max Ahgeak offered an opening prayer in the tribe’s native language. He later said, “Good jobs here give benefits to our people. We have high unemployment back home. A blessing here is passed down to people down home.”
Harford County Office of Economic Development Director Jim Richardson presented Ahgeak, UIC President Anthony Edwardsen and BTPS President Gerrie L’Heureux with a proclamation and carved County seal. Speaking on behalf of County Executive David Craig, Richardson said, “This is a first. There have been no other native Alaskan companies in Harford County. Welcome to the Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor.” Bowhead is named for the species of Artic whale that has been the focus of Inupiat culture of Alaska’s North Slope for centuries. The several companies within Bowhead provide services in project management and administration; information technology; warehousing and logistics; product design and reselling and public affairs, publishing, graphics and event management. The companies’ clients have included the United States departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, Interior and Transportation.
