Consignment store owner predicts ‘Win-Win’ Mary Paramore,
Five Star Consigning Connections opens for business Sept. 6 and will celebrate its grand opening Oct. 11. The boutique-styled shop is situated in 6,500 sq. ft. of space previously occupied by Rite Aid in Abingdon’s Box Hill Square. What makes Jacobs' plan truly unique is that she guarantees that inventory at Five Star Consigning Connections will turn over every 90 days. Customers will find all new, but gently used and competitively priced couches, tables, bedroom suites, dining room sets and decorating accessories if they stagger their visits. Jacobs can make this promise because she will keep merchandise only 90 days. On day 91, consigners either pick-up their unsold items or Jacobs will donate them to families in need and provide a receipt to consigners for a charitable tax write-off. “To me, as a Realtor, this means 90 days of free storage for my listing that has too much furniture in it,” said Deanna Zaganas, a Realtor with Keller Williams in Bel Air. “It will also help me if I need a particular piece of furniture to use to stage a room. This will be a great local resource for Realtors, home stagers and for homeowners, as well.” Jacobs has had no trouble getting consigners on board with her plan. She said everyone who comes in has a different story, from people down-sizing their living space to home foreclosures to estate inheritances. Until Jacobs gets a board of directors in place, she will determine where donated items will go. “I don’t want any bias, so I want a board to forward stories to, to let them select whom to help,” she said. She asks that churches, non-profits and everyone in contact with needy families stay on the lookout for people who need help and to pass their stories along to her. This is Jacobs’ first foray into consignment sales. After 32 years as a hospital administrator, she decided to do something new. “I was just going to dabble” in decorating and consigning, but “it’s grown into something much more.” Five Star Consigning Connections is at 2913 Emmorton Road, in Abingdon. She is open Tuesday-Sunday 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. Mondays are reserved for receiving consignments by appointment. For more information, call 410-569-2377. |
