Forest Hill fitness club has new owner Mary Paramore
“They had two LLCs and were trying to run both sides,” Joy said. “I felt they had a good thing going and that I could add to it.” Before making the purchase, Joy operated her own one-on-one personal training business, Joy Fitness, and, before that, spent four years as athletic director of the Bel Air Club. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education, earned while she attended Long Beach State in California on a basketball scholarship. When asked why she returned to a club setting, after being on her own for several years, she said, “I had a basement studio in my home. I outgrew the facility, and wanted to run a bigger business and put more of my skills and knowledge to use.” Since coming onboard, Joy has purchased new equipment and expanded class offerings. “We now have spin bikes, Pilates, cycle cross training and boxing,” she said. The facility also offers yoga, boot camp, circuit training, hot shot, hard core and flexible strength classes, as well as sports performance individual and team sessions. “Our sports performance training is mostly for youth who want to enhance their performance in a particular sport -- power, strength or speed,” she said. With every change Joy makes, she has an eye toward helping members get more for their membership buck. She said, “For a mid-grade price, they get all the benefits of a great club.” Members get one year of free nutritional counseling when they join, free coffee, free towel service and a personal touch.
Joy has about ten full and part-time staff members who work within their specialties. The facility comprises 12,000 sq. ft. and is also available for sports-themed birthday parties.
