Kaukeinen wins HBIC logo contest
Sarah Kaukeinen, a graphic designer for the Battelle Eastern Science and Technology Center in Aberdeen, submitted the winning entry for a logo for the Harford Business Innovation Center (HBIC). The HBIC board of directors chose Kaukeinen’s design from among 40 entries. She received a $500 cash prize and her design will be used in HBIC’s online and print promotional activities. “We are delighted by the number and quality of the logos received in response to our contest,” said HBIC president Jill McClune in a news release about the logo contest. “As we embark on the implementation of an expanded technology business incubator program in Harford County, the logo is a key element in creating HBIC’s brand, gaining public recognition and visually reinforcing the mission of the organization.” The non-profit HBIC will manage the expanded technology business incubator program in Harford County that is to open in a new location this fall. The county’s original technology incubator program operated for a decade at the HEAT Center, near the Rt. 22/I-95 interchange in Aberdeen, assisting 14 companies and creating almost 100 jobs. Business mentoring and development services will be offered by the HBIC, as well as affordable office space for technology entries and growth oriented defense contractors working with the Aberdeen Proving Ground. The HBIC is designed for early stage technology companies and defense contractors in engineering, computer systems development, management and technical consulting, scientific research and development and wired and wireless telecommunication services.
