SARC awards presented at annual meeting

The Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center, Inc. (SARC) held its annual meeting and awards ceremony Oct. 21 at the Maryland Golf and Country Clubs. Among those attending the meeting, held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, were Harford County Council President Billy Boniface, Councilman Joseph Woods and Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph Cassilly.

Established in 1978, SARC provides a 24 hour helpline, crisis intervention, counseling, a safehouse, community outreach and education and legal advocacy and representation in civil proceedings.

SARC’s Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Dawn Rowles, a Certified Public Accountant who owns First Act Accounting Services LLC.

Gil Abramson, a partner in the Baltimore office of the international law firm Hogan and Hartson LLP, received SARC’s Community Partner Award, presented to organizations or individuals donating service sor talents for the betterment of the community.

Frito Lay, which has a plant in Aberdeen, got the Business Partner Award, given tobusinesses supporting SARC’s mission through donations of time and money.
Harford County Circuit Court Judge Angela Eves was presented the Good Neighbor Award  that goes to a person or organization helping SARC work at the grassroots level.
Service awards were presented to members of SARC’s  staff and board of directors.

There also were reports, first hand accounts and a slide show presentation on the impact of domestic and sexual violence and stalking. Sheri Robinson provided musical entertainment at the meeting.
