A grand opening celebration is set for Feb. 2.

The Harford County Public Library (HCPL) Foundation and North Harford Friends of the Library collaborated on a campaign to raise $50,000. With the help of area families, philanthropic leaders and local businesses, $69,000 was raised to purchase materials, enhance the teen room and build an interactive play space for children at the Whiteford library. Major donors included the Exelon Corporation, Klein’s Family Foundation, the HCPL Board of Directors and North Harford Friends.

The library has been increased in size to 13,278 sq. ft with a capacity to hold 70,000 items. It has a meeting room with a 120 persons capacity, 24 public access computers, teen room with flat screen TV with gaming system, a local history room and the children’s play area.

Harford County’s Public Library has 11 branches serving more than 200,000 registered borrowers with an annual circulation of almost 5 million items.
