Department of Community Services Harford County Community Mediation Program Seeking Volunteer Mediators Feb. 17, 2010 -- Do you like helping people? Are you a good listener? Can you listen to people without taking sides? Do you believe in solving problems without violence or litigation? The Harford Community Mediation Program (HCCMP) is accepting applications for free training from citizens interested in becoming a volunteer mediator. The training includes 45 hours of basic mediation training and an additional five hours of advance training. To participate, one must be accepted into and successfully complete the training. Interested persons must also agree to one year of volunteer service to the HCCMP, and be available to mediate an average of once or twice per month. The upcoming May/June 2010 training schedule is as follows: Friday, May 14: 6pm-9pm Mediation is a voluntary and confidential alternative for parties involved in a dispute. Trained mediators will guide parties through an informal process that helps those involved to identify the issues and generate their own resolutions. Mediators are neutral and do not take sides or tell parties what to do. For more information contact Susan Fisher, Program Coordinator, at 410-638-4807 or email mediation@harfordcountymd.gov. A volunteer application can be downloaded at www.harfordcountymd.gov/services/mediation. Interviews for acceptance into the training will begin in mid March. |
