Harford Community College Announces Candidates For President; Feb. 24, 2010 – The Harford Community College Board of Trustees has announced three candidates for the position of Harford Community College President. They are Dr. Dawn Lindsay, Interim President of Glendale College in Glendale, CA; Dr. Danette Toone, Vice President of Academic and Community Initiatives at Temple College in Temple, TX; and Dr. F.J. Talley, Vice President and Dean of Leonard Campus at the College of Southern Maryland. The finalists were selected from a larger group of candidates reviewed by the 12-member Presidential Search Committee, which included college and community representatives. The committee was chaired by Harford Community College Board of Trustees Member Dr. Jay Valdes. The public is invited to attend open forums with each candidate at 2:30 p.m. in the Chesapeake Center Board Room at Harford Community College. Dr. Lindsay’s forum will be held Monday, March 8; Dr. Toone’s forum will be held Wednesday, March 10; and Dr. Talley’s forum will be held Thursday, March 11. Dr. Dawn Lindsay has served Glendale College since January 2007 as the Vice President of Instruction; she was promoted to Executive Vice President in January 2009 and is currently the Interim Superintendent/President. Dr. Lindsay has been very active at all levels on campus as well as in the community. When she arrived at Glendale College she developed an Enrollment Management Committee to address declining enrollment. She has been a bridge to the community. She was the first keynote speaker for the Glendale Character and Ethics Project and has been named the 2010 Glendale Woman of the Year. Dr. Lindsay has earned a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University, as well as a Master’s in Educational Counseling, a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a BSW in Social Work from Western Maryland College. Dr. Danette E. Toone is currently Vice President of Academic and Community Initiatives at Temple College in Temple, Texas. She has been with Temple College since 1998. Previously at Temple College, she served as Associate Vice President of Advancement, Business and Community Service and as Interim Director of Admissions and Records. At Temple, Dr. Toone secured grant funding of more than $9M, enabled Temple College’s selection as a participating college in the Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count initiative, and expanded campus-wide technology with grant monies and collaborative planning, enabling enhanced opportunities for student success. Dr. Toone has a Doctorate in Education in the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin as well as a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Dr. Frederico J. (F. J.) Talley is currently the Vice President and Dean of the Leonardtown Campus of the College of Southern Maryland. Dr. Talley, a former President of Olivet College, received a Bachelor’s degree in English from Dickinson College and a Master of Arts degree in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University. He earned a Doctorate in Student Personnel and Higher Education Administration from Ohio University. Dr. Talley is a frequent presenter and author on higher education topics both nationally and internationally. These have ranged from a presentation at the American Council on Education on balancing faculty work and composition with the future needs of universities, to a consultation on working with student leaders at the University of Zululand in South Africa. Throughout his adult life, Dr. Talley has been actively involved in service activities, including serving on the Economic Development Council and the Community Development Corporation Board of Directors in St. Mary’s County, Maryland; as a board member of the Historic St. Mary’s City Foundation; and as a member of the Greenwell Foundation Board.
