SHA has new customer service system

January 14, 2010 -- The State Highway Administration (SHA) of the Maryland Department of Transportation has a new system for submitting service requests and comments online.

To submit a service request or concern, citizens can go to the SHA Web site at www.road.maryland.gov, click on the Contact Us link in the left navigation bar and click Submit A Service Request.  They then can enter the data fields and choose a preferred method of contact for any response and click Submit Request. The system generates a tracking number and will send an automated emails when a service request is created and closed. The online customer service system is monitored 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Monday thorugh Friday, excluding state holidays and furlough days.

The SHA provides snow removal, mowing and trimming, storm water management, line striping, signal maintenance, pothole repair, resurfacing and inspections on or along more than 17,000 miles of road and 2,500 bridges throughout the state. The SHA is responsible for interstate, U.S. and state routes, the numbered non-toll routes in Maryland’s 23 counties. According to state figures, nearly 70 percent of the 56 billion miles driven in Maryland every year are on the state system, which represents only 17 percent of the total road mileage in the state.
