PC Repair Technician Level 1 Begins Sept. 29 through HCC
This is the first course in a series of two courses designed to lead students to the A+ Certification. Students learn and understand how different hardware and software components interact to make a PC system function. Students install MS Windows 2000 and XP to discuss, troubleshoot, and repair common problems. Topics include files, directory structure, folders, operating systems, programs, and applications. Skills include basic maintenance techniques, configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting Windows 2000/XP initialization/support files. Prerequisite: Working knowledge of Windows with an understanding of the directory structure. Familiarity with DOS is a plus. CompTIA says A+ certification validates the latest skills needed by today's computer support professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. CompTIA A+ confirms a technician's ability to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. The exams also cover domains such as security, safety and environmental issues and communication and professionalism.

Certified Info Sys Security Professional Begins Sept. 27 through HCC
CISSP Certification was designed to recognize mastery of an international standard for information security and understanding of a Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). Certification can enhance a professionals career and provide added IS credibility. This test preparation course covers the following ten CISSP information systems security test domains relevant to the corresponding professional certification exam: access control systems and methodology; applications and systems development; business continuity planning; cryptography; law, investigation and ethics; operations security; physical security; security architecture and models; security management practices; and telecommunications, network and internet security. Completion of this course better positions participants to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). This certification is one of the requirements of the DoD 8570 directive. Prerequisites: Significant IT security experience and prior certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, MCSE or SCNP are recommended.
